My garden is a Fall garden. As much as I try to jam in annuals and spring/summer blooming perennials, it truly shines and stands out as the temps drop in September/October. The character is off the charts. It evokes more emotion than winter/spring/summer combined. Now if I could only tap a “pause” button …
Beautiful fall garden. You turned me on to grasses a few years ago so my garden is getting there but not yet on par with yours. What are those flowers blooming in photos 4, 7, and 8?
So beautiful. I do the same thing in my garden—autumn rocks. And then it’s all about winter interest. But two nights ago we had an uncharacteristic storm dump 8” of heavy wet snow on us. I spent hours out there, in the middle of the night, shaking snow off my little trees, grasses, sedums, hydrangeas and roses (with hips!) Talk about neurotic!!! Some things are beyond repair (miscanthus and switch grass smashed to smithereens) but it’s amazing how resilient perennials are. The asters and roses didn’t miss a beat, still perky with flowers after being bent over and buried. Thanks for sharing your garden and humor.
I’ve missed you! Where have you been?
I totally agree…. the fall garden is the best. The sun dances on everything and lights it all up…. it’s like this giant hug from mother nature telling us that all is right with the world and the coming winter won’t last forever, and to keep looking at everything all winter long because the beauty there is so……spectacular, in its own special way.
So glad to get this email!!
Looks sweet. I agree with your comment on the grasses. I discovered them as well and I am torn between native species and the beautiful Micanthus varieties. So I added 7 different varieties in groups of three over 4 years ago and wow how they all come alive in the fall what with the seed heads and the colour changes.
Glad to see your updates again. I like your style!
Ornamental grasses are great. Fast growers, dramatic looking esp in fall, deer leave them alone and you can’t kill ’em with a stick.
