John and Dorothy Meggitt have a love of English gardens, so theirs overflows with perennials and specimen trees. The garden is approached across Pidcock Creek and up a hill where it presents itself as a wonderful surprise. It lies on the side of a valley and is designed so that views of Solebury Mountain can be enjoyed. The hillside is terraced with stone stairs, dry stone walls, and a pergola, so there are numerous places to sit, including a secluded belvedere. There is a water garden with hardy lilies, lotus, and many marginal plants. This is home to specimen koi and a large school of goldfish. A growing collection of significant statuary adds further interest. Much of the ten-acre property is in its natural state to provide a habitat for wildlife and can be explored by trails that lead to the creek.
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
On to the pics:
Beautiful….love that pond.
Oh, my goodness. I could just get lost in those pictures. Pennsylvania is so beautiful.
Right now, here in Nor. Calif. we are having 100 degree plus heat for the past week, so my “gardening” during this heat wave is just running around watering everything that the sprinkler system misses, and then RE-watering things the heat just wilts. Using lots of peat moss to conserve water, too.
Wow, what a beautiful place!
What a simply gorgeous place! Thanks for sharing. I enlarged all the pics and it is stunning!!
Beautiful pictures and a beautiful garden! It is hard to look at a garden like that and then at my own garden without throwing up my arms in dismay but, maybe with 9.5 more acres, pots of money, and a few full-time gardeners I could reproduce it…
A beautiful place – but, boy, I’m guessing there has been a lot of money and perhaps a fulltime gardener/lawn person or two that have gone into creating and maintaining that garden. It gets a bit discouraging to have that sort of perfection held up as what us more mortal beings should aspire to create.
All so divine!! Thank you John, for sharing some awesome photo’s and taking me on this mini tour through the Meggit’s
estate!
I have to agree with Gaia Gardener regarding the up-keep and
maintenance! Though would love to be one of their hired hands!!
Beautiful and so lush! Agree somebody probably had ‘a little help’. Of course nuthin’ wrong with that. I’ve had people in to install my stream/waterfall, and even help me with mulching one yr when my husband wasn’t here to help. Yet, I mostly enjoy being able to stand back and look at my masterpieces and know that I (and my hubby) have done 99% of it ourselves. Still, I always admire a gorgeous garden and landscape!
