That is the face of a determined SOB who faced some adverse weather yesterday morning but still managed to garden his tuckus off.
Some additional observations on the photo:
- Notice the rain drops not only on the camera but on my forehead as well. Where I come from, we call that “determination”.
- Notice the beard. It says “I ain’t got no time for shaving and I’m one bad mutha.” No wet clay was going to stand in my way.
- Notice the hat with the Florida Gator logo. What am I 15 years old? Actually it is the only hat in the house that fits on my giant noggin.
- Notice the slight grin on my face. Welcome to my happy place.
While it rained heavily early yesterday morning, I knew I had about an hour before I needed to get to my “real” job and there was no way I was going to miss that opportunity. Out came the wheel barrow and gloves and we were off:
I have made a gargantuan effort this fall to plant more bulbs and that was the goal yet again. I had been scoping out potential bulb locales and knew where I was going to plant them before getting started (can you say “plan”, I rule!).
The bulbs would fill in empty spots in the spring but would also be surrounded by emerging perennials that would hide the dying bulb foliage. The daffodils I planted in the empty spot below will be shielded by the catmint in late spring:
My happy place involves beer, shirtless hot guys playing beach volleyball, and bears riding tricycles, but to each his own.
So 15-year-olds wear hats with sporting logos. What do more mature gentlemen wear on their hats? 🙂
I sitll haven’t planted the rest of the massive pile of bulbs that Chuckles bought me a couple of weeks ago. Every time I even think about it, my back protests.
Oh, and it’s raining outside. Eff that.
🙂
Way to go John, strike while the iron is hot…um no while it’s WET! It’s going to be a beauty when the bulbs sprout forth into dazzling daffodils…and allium, one of my favorites!
Ah, way to grow my friend fight the elements to reap the blooming rewards Fight on my Friend fight on <|;-)
we…..i mean chuck, planted 300 bulbs on saturday. he used an auger, on his power drill thingey, he liked it. i blogged about it if you are interested…it was quick and he thought it was fun, well….he was smiling!!
The power drill and auger bit is the way to go, John! I do say good job, because by the end of the season, I’m sort of done with planting anything!
The Allium is one of the best performers in my garden. I love it as it attracts the bees for pollination. I planted a few narcissus and Tulips in places I didnt have any. Now it can snow if it wants.
Kyna – I think it is the massive gator logo that kills my credibility. Admittedly, the more I look at that dumb photo the more I realize I am a complete tool.
T&B – I am so excited about the alliums but did notice holes where they were planted. Hopefully, they were untouched.
Annie – well said!
Debbie – i love the idea of an auger and actually tried it, but my awful clay prevented it from working. Damn impressed with 300 bulbs planted, will look awesome.
Lemonverbena – I’m usually done to, trying hard to just think spring.
That Bloomin – I am so psyched to finally have attempted alliums. Now time to sit back and pray they make it through to spring!
nice blog/happy gardening. u’re makin me feel guilty tho, i’m abandoned mine it seems. I’m a Spring girl, i guess; can’t face all those leaves and debris.
